letting go

Have you ever felt the pain of letting go?

This morning, after days of deliberation in my mind, I finally gave in to an advice from a friend - he being a consultant on plants. Fruit trees in our backyard stand so close to each other. Some have to be sacrificed.

The creaking sound of each trunk as it surrendered, helplessly, to the sharpness of the ax summoned memories I have long buried - the agonizing pain of eternal separation. I really felt sad as I watched the trunks slowly fall to the ground. Having been there for years, giving me the needed shade when I walk around at midday, I surely will miss them. But the thought of seeing the remaining trees glow with life dispelled every bit of reluctance.

Goodbye pomelo! Goodbye jackfruit! Goodbye calamansi! The space that used to be your dominion is now a void. Your twins are here to stay and they are now starting to rejoice. The leaves are smiling as they see the rays of the sun coming through. I can almost hear their laughter.

my heart bleeds a bit

as fruit trees come falling down

such sweet sacrifice

after a downpour

rice paddies teem with new life

the farmers rejoice

trees tower so high

leaves hunger for the sun's kiss

will each get a share?

 warmth of a hen's love

gives hope to the yet unborn
and life to the born

fragile eggs open

and chicks see the light of day

will they all survive?

beautiful flowers

on a debutante's entrance

take my breath away

from bed to sofa

discarded mat finds good use

throw pillows look cool

two hands tightly clasped

a sweet assurance of love

grandpa on his bed

before darkness sets in
the sun in awesome glory
sends its farewell rays

like the morning sun

faces beam with love and smiles

the pet dog smiles too

floating lanterns

hundreds of lanterns
float like stars in the dark sky
they soon disappear

while waves rush to shore

mother and son wades farther

till their shorts smell salt

faces and fishes

enjoy the swim together

in a sanctuary

inside a tree house

 a canopied bamboo bed 

breathes lots of fresh air

friends reunited

musing childhood memories

giant tree listens

like a winter leaf
a car displayed in a mall
feels rigid...lifeless

with great abandon

they walk the long sandy stretch

two hands become one

an array of jars
unlike beauty pageants
no competition

placed in a corner

cute teddy bears offer smiles

guests glow with smiles too

a labor of love

painstakingly done for days

flowers in cross stitch

the terrace beckons

guitar waiting to be plucked

lazy afternoon

from somewhere they come

mere specks blown by the soft wind
now...beauties on rocks

sway gently with the warm breeze

sun's rays they filter

minutes seem to drag

the heart murmurs to the mind

excited...can't wait

sits lonely on a wide lawn

dusty...no one cares

breathless from a kiss

she hurries inside in bliss

stars seen in her eyes

sweet message of love

ready for sending, mere click

empty battery

seems just yesterday

i cradled them in my arms

how fast they have grown

early morning breeze

whispers its soothing presence

rustling leaves respond

islands of thin clouds
drifted away from our view
so fast...left wanting

her eyes travel far

her mind...a long way farther

thoughts came victorious

dewdrops on its leaves

cauliflower in screen house

sits still but stands out

sliding on the grass

unmindful of eyes watching

its thoughts...different

like angels they sing
pews filled, people smartly dressed
fiesta once again

an overnight stay

in a riverside resort

memories remain

coffee getting cold

captivating view outside 

 hungry soul feasting

like newborn puppies

safely snuggled in a box
sleeping just waiting

hours of patient work

rewarded lovely art piece

carpenter's delight

waiting for their meal

two puppies bask in the sun
the camera clicks

never fails to lure 

target of children's mad stones

bunch of rose apples

smiling bright today

yet seen no more tomorrow

cool sea breeze listens

as the net is drawn to shore
