Near our gate is an ylang-ylang tree. It has been there for years - eight or perhaps even ten. A few branches have already extended beyond our fence. Since it started producing flowers it has never stopped, all year round that is. Sometimes the branches are so laden with flowers that  its fragrance  reaches one's nose  even twenty meters away. No wonder people walking down our street turn their heads, seemingly looking around for the source of the fragrance. Once found, these passersby freely pluck  a few blossoms within their reach to carry with them home.

passersby carry with them
fragrance of our tree

  1. your post today makes me think years back to evenings when the ylang ylang trees that grew wild near our home (in the wilderness!) ^_^ were in bloom...there were hundreds of 'em that bloomed at the same time.So you can just imagine the sweet smell they emit.. good thing though that the evening breeze that carried their fragrance changes direction occasionally or it could be overwhelming!. The waft from one or two ylang-ylang trees is really pleasant enough.
thanks for sharing 2 beautiful haikus about them... i love the photo too!.

  2. why don't you plant one or two within your yard? it won't take long for you to enjoy the flowers ... maybe a year or a little over.

i took the shot myself ... up on a ladder mind you! glad you love it.

my pleasure sharing the lines i've spun.
