This is a repost of one I made a year ago.

There are times when I wake up to lazy mornings, times when nothing specific on my to-do list pulls me out of bed before the sun is up. During these times, I just love to linger in bed and think of people close to my heart, wishing them well for the day ahead. The most recent experience was one I cannot afford to just move away to oblivion.

It was one early cold morning last week. A grayish sky greeted my eyes, a promise of a rather drab day. Thanks to the usual chirping sound of birds in nearby trees which cheered me up. My early morning music! Nothing out of the ordinary until something caught my eye. Through the glass window, still lying in bed, I saw that small bird fly alone and perch on a twig – a leafless twig. My heart was still for a few moments. I saw myself in that bird.

Today I remember my beloved hubby with a certain degree of sadness and joy. Sadness because he is not here anymore to share and live life with me. Joy, though, because I know he is happily smiling down at me with love.

To my hubby of 28 good years, I dedicate this story in haiku – a story reliving that beautiful early morning interlude.

Happy birthday my river king! I love you!!! That's all my heart can say.

the bird, the twig, and the rain

dawn just creeping in
after a long restful night
in bed i lingered

barely awake then
i saw a bird fly and perch
on a leafless twig

for a little while
the bird patiently waited
mate nowhere in sight

fidgety she was
the lovely bird flew away
the twig...left trembling

not so long after
that same bird came flying back and
perched on the same twig

the bird swung around
surveyed the place far and wide
what was in her mind?

then, a sound she made
a call perhaps for someone
will that someone hear?

the chirping went on
alas, another bird came
and perched beside her

a lively chatter
ensued between the two birds
together once more

happily they stayed
perched on the thin leafless twig
and the drizzle starts

unmindful they seem
sheer joy enveloping them
lost in their own world

soon they realized
drizzle becoming stronger
find shelter somewhere

flapping their wet wings
they flew away together
the thin twig quivered

through a window blade
i saw the falling raindrops
the twig…still empty

the birds seen no more

left me thinking how life is
when one is alone

i shifted my eyes
to the wall on my far left
my hubby…smiling

the rain persisted
spattering sounds on rooftops
lulled me back to sleep

Today marks the first anniversary of this blog. Hesitant at the start, I never thought it would survive this long. Although there were periods of hibernation, times when my spinning wheel refused to work, it's enough inspiration to see that this blog is still getting pagewiews.

Considering this day to be special, I would like to celebrate it by sharing a snapshot story in haiku.

a night with the moon

after evening walk
at the front lawn i linger
 the moon to savor

looking up i see
an island across the sky
gray clouds surround it

slowly brightening
 eastern part of horizon
 golden moon appears

peeping through the trees
 bright full moon slowly ascends
past the blocking trees

it goes up in time
shining bright in all splendor
someone else watching

the gray clouds before
now so illuminated
i watch in great awe

the clouds drift away
from the moon shining so bright
shy they have become

magnificent moon
my heart's beatings you can't hear
nor my soul's yearnings

wish i could see you
smile down at me every night
and just defy law

"be content dear one
with my periodic presence"
the moon speaks to me

with no words spoken
me and the moon conversing
just thoughts...random thoughts

air is getting cold
soaked in your presence i go
dear moonlight thank you!
